David B. Martinez

David is a founding shareholder/owner of Martinez, Hart, Sanchez & Romero, P.C. David’s prestigious legal career began in 1982, when he received his law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law. Since that time, he’s been a leader in our community and has worked tirelessly on behalf of people throughout New Mexico. His professionalism, work-ethic, and loyalty and service to his clients has won him the respect of his clients and peers in the process.

Areas of Practice

David has assisted thousands of injury victims over the course of his 40-year legal career. Over the course of his career, David has helped injured New Mexicans and their families to recover millions of dollars in settlements and jury verdicts.

David focuses his practice on motor vehicle automobile, truck and motorcycle accidents, slips or trip and fall injuries, construction accidents, and claims against insurance companies. His practice also involves worker’s compensation claims. The respect David has earned in our legal community has allowed him to also focus his practice on plaintiff’s legal malpractice claims, which hold other attorneys accountable for mistakes on clients' cases.

In 2018, David was voted Albuquerque’s Lawyer of the Year for his work on personal injury litigation. He’s also been recognized among his peers for his dedication to the justice system, even receiving the prestigious AV®-rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible classification on the peer review site. In 2009, he was named one of The Best Lawyers in America. He’s also been recognized as a Super Lawyer in plaintiff’s personal injury law and legal malpractice. In 2022, David received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the UNM Law School.

Volunteering and Community Outreach

David has been an active member of this community his entire life. He graduated from the Albuquerque Academy in 1974 and went on to study architecture and business at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. When he graduated in 1978, with his degree in Business Administration, David returned home to Albuquerque and began working for Springer Corporation and Springer Building Materials Corporation in accounting, finance, marketing, personnel and insurance. Shortly thereafter, David attended the University of New Mexico Law School where he graduated in 1982. He was president of his law school class and received the Dean’s Award.

David also believes deeply in the value of education for the young people in the State of New Mexico. For 35 years, he served as a member of the board at the University of New Mexico Law School, where he passed wisdom along to the next generation of legal professionals. David also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico Law School. He has also served on the Board of Trustees at Sandia Prep School, Manzano Day School, and Albuquerque Academy, as well as lending his assistance to Duranes Elementary School.
